Biography
Carter Chase was born in the port City of Saint John, New Brunswick on June 29, 1995. He grew up in a christian family of seven, having three brothers (being the second oldest) and a sister. He moved to Rothesay, New Brunswick when he was five years old and stayed there through his school years. He graduated from Rothesay High School with high honours in Visual Arts in addition to leading the high school soccer team to win the provincial championship.
Upon graduation Chase embarked upon another adventure. His bohemian spirit led him to experience the world from a new perspective. He sought out freedom from the material world and the comfort of familiar relationships to experience life on his own. This journey provided Chase with time to develop his skills as a skateboarder and connect with the culture of transition-skateboarding in bowls and ramp. This rush of creativity led Chase to more artistry in all areas of his life. He fell in love with his guitar, understanding the freedom, emotion and truth that could be expressed through writing music and making art. He travelled down the east coast of America, alone in a camper van. For three months he lived in his van starting from New Brunswick, Canada and making it as far as Miami Beach, Florida. When he got back from his trip, inspired by his new way of living, Chase decided to pursue his talents in visual arts and got accepted into the Foundations Visual Art program at New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, graduating as an honours student. He then was awarded acceptance into the graphic design program at New Brunswick College of Craft and Design which he studied for 2 years. He is now pursuing his passions of expressing the unarmed truth and unconditional love of God through the use of different art forms including fine art, writing music and poetry. |
Artist StatementArt to me is expression and meditation, an outlet of my thoughts, feelings and understanding. Most of my art is very abstract and wild as is my mind. It has been described as visceral. I seek truth and understanding in this world and that is what I try to display in most of my works; truth that others can hopefully relate to or learn from, in a visual or poetic form. My work comes from experience and ideas that I'm passionate about. Art has no restrictions, but good art is meant to be understood. I make what I want to express independent of an audience to judge it; it reflects who I am.
The way my art work is created is based on flow that comes through the meditation of doing the art piece itself. The ideas and lines evolve throughout the process of creating it, coming from my mind, my experience, supernatural force and music. Music is a huge influence in my work and the way it flows. Sometimes my artwork is purposely a translation of the music of a full album or artist. I believe that all art forms are just different languages of art that are all based on colour and expression. I am very proud and passionate about my art. My style and skill continues to improve and grow as I learn more everyday, usually from my mistakes, which I make a lot of. The most important thing I want people to see and understand when looking at my art is truth. I am currently in the pursuit of using my work to share Christ's love for us, and what His true design was for us, but I continually fall short of expressing and understanding how great his loving grace is, and how much glory He truly deserves. My vision is, "to make great art that influences people and shares with them truth, to bring glory to God." |
